Events in my future (or past)
Spinx Run Fest Half Marathon – Greenville, SC – October 31, 2009
This is a good event in my hometown.
Goofy’s Race and Half Challenge – Walt Disney World – January 9-10, 2010
This is yet another example of me biting off way more than I can chew. When I start this event in January, I will have exactly zero marathons under my belt so, naturally, it makes sense to run a half-marathon on Saturday and a full marathon the next day. Then we will spend the next week in the parks at Disney. At least I’ll get to ride in a wheelchair and go to the front of the line if I hobble myself.
3 State 3 Mountain Challenge – Chattanooga, TN
3 State was the first bike event I did after 10 years of doing nothing. It poured rain and lightning most of the day but I had a great time. Hope you like to climb.
Brasstown Bald Buster Century – Helen, GA
Speaking of climbing, I still have nightmares about this one. Not really, it is a great ride but Hogpen Gap is brutal and just beats you down. If you make it to the top of Brasstown Bald, you are handed a medal and your official “Bad-ass” card.
Assault on Mt Mitchell – Spartanburg, SC to Mt Mitchell, NC
This ride has a long and infamous reputation. The last 20 miles will take you as long as the first 80. You may bake in 100 degree heat or it may snow. You just never know. I recommend this ride to all masochists.
Country Music Marathon – Nashville, TN
I love Nashville. I used to live there so, this is just an excuse to go back, even if I have to run 26.2 hilly miles.
Events I aspire to complete
Western States has been made popular by Dean Karnazes and other insane people over the last few years. As crazy as I am, it still scares the daylight out of me. Good thing because I’ll be running all night if I ever get here.
Leadville is similar to Western States except you can run it or ride it. I’d like to do both.
